Kansas Municipal Utilities is the statewide association representing Kansas cities and other public or not-for-profit agencies involved in the ownership and operation of municipal utilities. Formed in 1928, KMU provides assistance and information to members with regard to legislative and regulatory issues, training and educational programs, and numerous other services towards the advancement of municipal utilities and to achieve maximum benefits for the customer-owners served by our utilities.
To lead the municipal community with integrity while enhancing public confidence in municipal utility services, promoting supportive public policy and providing exceptional service to member utilities for the benefit of their customers and communities.

Exercise statewide leadership in defining and addressing environmental issues in the municipal utility industry
Promote and facilitate expansion of partnerships among municipalities that add value for their utilities and communities.
Expand knowledge of technical, administrative and leadership best practices among members through the delivery of quality continuing education services.
Enhance the benefit of member services through development of new strategic alliances with organizations and agencies that have a utility-related mission.
Strengthen and sustain KMU's influence on behalf of municipal utilities in legislative and regulatory decision making at the state and federal levels of government.
Increase community understanding of the public value of municipal utility services.
Increase the total number of members, with particular focus on cities that provide water, wastewater and stormwater utility services.
Strengthen and promote technical assistance services.
