Journey Level Lineman

Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA) is recruiting for a Journey Level Lineman to oversee the electric distribution system in Dighton, Kansas. The Journey Level Lineman will supervise and perform skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system and work directly with city personnel and governing body. The employee in this position is responsible for exercising judgment as to the details of assigned work within prescribed operating procedures. The Journey Level Lineman is responsible for maintenance of power lines, electrical equipment, and transformers and all other work assigned by the City of Dighton and KMEA. Work is performed according to departmental procedures, practices, and safety regulations.


Education and Experience: (Combination of education, training, and experience will be considered) High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of five years of experience with a construction crew on electrical distribution, including four years in an approved apprentice program. Must maintain a valid Kansas CDL. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (not all inclusive) Ability to take charge of situations concerning construction and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Ability to lead and assist groundmen and apprentices in a safe manner. Thorough knowledge of primary circuits, load consumption, metering ratios, electrical hookups, safety procedures, and all types of transformer banks. Ability to operate bucket truck, tension equipment, electrical test equipment, meters, fault locators, and other related equipment. Thorough knowledge of circuits, circuit breakers, and switches. Strong verbal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees, City officials, business entities, and the general public. Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work under general supervision and make responsible decisions. Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.

Range: $38.00 to $48.00 per hour

Hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday. Overtime and emergency call-outs required.
Residency: Employee should establish and maintain residency within a 20-minute drive from the City of Dighton and shall fulfill this no later than 3 months from hire. Residency preference would be to live within the city limits.

Electrical Distribution Supervisor

Plant Operator I, II, III, IV

The City of Emporia, Kansas is accepting applications for Plant Operator I, II, III, IV at our Water Plant and Wastewater Plant. Under the supervision of the Water Plant Manager, the Water Plant Operator performs technical and skilled work in the operation of the water pumping stations and treatment plant and related equipment. Applicants must have the ability to obtain a Kansas State Water Certification within one year or already possess certification. Plant Operator pay range is as follows and depends on experience and certification.

Maintenance Worker I, II, III

The City of Emporia, Kansas is accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I, II, III in our Underground Utilities Department. Under the supervision of the Underground Utility Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is a non-exempt position which performs work in the installation and maintenance of all underground utilities, which includes the potable water distribution system, sanitary sewer system, and storm water drainage system. The employee in this position performs skilled and unskilled work along with heavy manual labor.

The pay range is as follows and depends on experience.

Community: Ellsworth, Kansas is a family-friendly, steady-growth community (pop 3,054), nestled in the beautiful Smoky Hills of Central Kansas, enhanced by quick/easy access to two interstate highways. The County seat of Ellsworth County, Ellsworth is surrounded by scenic views and located between two excellent state lakes. Historic, unique downtown Ellsworth retains the feel of a truly wonderful Kansas ‘Cowtown’, and stays ‘filled to the brim’, primarily with a variety of independent retailers and businesses.

Located on the north edge of the City, the Ellsworth State Correctional Facility employs over 500 workers. Additionally, two local Ag manufacturers contribute greatly to the local economy. As a result, Ellsworth’s job market is net-inflow.

Organization: Ellsworth is governed through the Mayor/Council form. The directly-elected mayor, by statute, has ‘CEO’ oversight of the City, and its Governing Body establishes formal city policy. The City Administrator is hired by the Governing Body, and is responsible for the overall and day-to-day management of the City, and also is expected to assist in policy development.

Experience: The ideal candidate will have served successfully as a city manager/administrator, assistant city manager/administrator or department head positions. The Governing Body may consider a candidate of lesser experience, if that person presents strong educational credentials, along with sufficient city experience through internships, assistantships, etc. A background in local government finance and budget, leadership abilities, and the ability to effectively engage with employees and the community are all expected attributes. The ability to understand, absorb and become a part of the culture of Ellsworth and central Kansas is highly desired.


Salary Range:  $80,000-$100,000 depending upon qualifications, with a full range of benefits including health insurance.

Education: Bachelors’ degree required, though extensive local government experience may possibly be substituted. MPA (or similar) degree preferred.
