The ideal applicant will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or a related field, master’s degree preferred and at least three years of municipal-government experience. The background of a successful candidate should include strong leadership, municipal utilities and finance experience, open communication and a proven track record that demonstrates outstanding public relations skills. This community-oriented leader will promote economic development initiatives, transparency in government, and positive intergovernmental relations.

Power Plant Operator

The City of Ellinwood, population 2100, is seeking applications for a full time position of Power Plant Operator. Job duties primarily involve operation and maintenance of diesel generators. Diesel engine and electrical knowledge preferred. Other job duties will involve assisting other departments including electric distribution and water. Wastewater Class III Operator license required. Salary range varies upon qualification. City Manager

City of Sterling, KS seeks an energetic, highly motivated and engaging leader to serve as the next City Manager.

Salary: $70,000-$85,000 with competitive benefit package

Community: Sterling was incorporated in 1873 and has a current population of 2,328: located in Rice County, with a total population of 9,660. The quality of life in Sterling is admired by many. The City possesses an excellent school system and is home to Sterling College a private 4-year Liberal Arts Institution. Sterling has a strong history of support for the city manager profession.

Organization: The governing body is made of five (5) members elected at-large with overlapping 3-year terms. The City is a true example of a full-service city with approximately 20 full-time employees and an annual operating budget of $7.5 million. Sterling is a full-service City providing police, fire, public works, parks, electric production, transmission and distribution, water supply and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment services.

Experience: The ideal candidate should have some local government experience preferably as an assistant or manager, and working knowledge of local government finance and budget. Knowledge and experience managing an electric utility is a plus.

Education: Bachelor’s degree. MPA preferred.
